What's new (as of 1/22/10)?

We are upgrading our site software to get to current releases of software and to provide a few new features to those members who'd like to participate on aarenewal.org.  We continue to look for ways to improve the site and make it more useful to those who would like to avail themselves of this platform.

If you have any suggestions at all regarding improvements to this site (or, if you'd like to identify items on this site you particularly like or hate w/out offering suggestions), please feel free to post them to the forum: AA Renewal Web Site Suggestions or email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Some of the following items have changed or are in the process of changing today (some of the links will require you to register to check it out):

  1. We've upgraded the Joomla! content management system and the phpBB as well as the templates to the latest available release.  While this should not impact you or the site operations, it is possible that something got screwed up which could affect an article or the way it's displayed.  We need to do this sort of maintenance every few months so that we can guard against hackers or other attacks on our site and it's content.
  2. On our home page, we've added a news item section where articles like this (as well as other "newsworthy" articles) can be communicated to visitors.  Currently, this is a fairly laborious process to support these "news items" (specific articles must be created to link into) but it still seems like a good thing to do.  You might see new stuff show up there occasionally.
  3. We've created a new Blogs section for items of "news" about the AA Renewal site.  This area is readable to all who browse the site (no registration required) and it's for information like this article.  Probably of little or no interest to all but the most curious visitor.
  4. We've installed a module which will allow us to email everyone who's a registered member of the site - including a mechanism whereby one can "opt out" of this email if they desire.  We don't anticipate ever producing an email like this more than once a month or so (less frequently if there have been no changes of note) but, if you don't want to receive this email edit your profile (you can do that at any time off the 'change profile' link at the login box on the home page, the logout link at the top of almost any page or here).  It's under the Additional Information tab and the checkbox is labeled: AA Renewal News Email Opt-out.
  5. On our Donations page, we've added a summary table on the right under the donations link that automatically shows how much has been contributed toward aarenewal.org.
We are looking at other ways to improve our site.  Again, we'd appreciate any suggestions or opinions you'd like to offer.
